THE STORY

Shrouded in mysticism, heralded in myth— the mighty Maguey— commonly referred to as Agave, has been a topic of conversation for centuries. Some say a lightning bolt struck the earth hitting the heart of a wild agave, thus releasing an intoxicant many referred to as the Elixir of the Gods. Others say mezcal is the result of a clever Tlacuache (opossum) who was dared by humans to steal the drink of demons. Upon the Tlacuache’s return from hell, his tail caught fire while clutching the spirit he stole. Some believe this is evidence why the opossum is cursed forever with a furless tail, and also explains how mezcal got its distinguished smokey flavor.

We at Entre Maguey believe that there is a story in every spirit, and a spirit in every story. Our spirits just so happen to contain the stories of generations. For many, mezcal is an enigma— a conundrum; but for us it is a celebration. It is the story of our ancestors speaking to us from a century old species dating some 500+ years back. A legacy in the leaves, a plot in each piña—the heart

From sowing the first seeds to sealing the finished product, we champion the mezcal and maguey communities of Mexico. The Maestro Mezcaleros are an integral part of the community of producers who help us achieve the finest quality of mezcal. We pay a fair price to producers while continually developing and implementing social and learning programs for the farming communities in Mexico. We want to inspire future generations of Maestro Mezcaleros by providing a sustainable way of living.
